A theft of Rs 60 lakh was reported in Karol Bagh in central Delhi. The money was stolen from a van that was used by two men while collecting money from liquor shops on Wednesday afternoon. The van belonged to the electronic clearance service company.
‘While two employees, identified as Surjeet and Dayachand, went to collect cash from a liquor shop, the driver went to drink water. They forgot to lock the van,’ a police officer said.
‘At the time of the incident, liquor shop’s guard, Yashwant Singh, was standing outside the van. A man in a vehicle nearby distracted his attention saying that he had dropped some money. The box may have been taken out while Singh was picking up the money,’ the officer said.
According to the police, when the driver returned, they discovered that the cash box containing Rs 60 lakh was missing. ‘The employees are being questioned. We are probing into the matter,’ said a police official.
