Even a week after the daring robbery in Lajpat Nagar, the police have not been able to disclose the exact amount that was robbed by the armed assailants. Though initially some senior officials claimed that the amount involved was Rs 8 crore, sources in the police department say that the amount could actually have been Rs 16 crore.
‘On the day of the incident, Rajesh Kumar Kalra, a Delhi-based businessman was carrying Rs 16 crore with him that were robbed by a group of eight persons.
The assailants got a tip-off from Kalra’s juvenile domestic help about the transaction of such a huge amount,’ a police official told Millennium Post on condition of anonymity.
‘Kalra is an international bookie, who is acting as a head of other bookies in the national capital.
He has good relations with Lalit Modi, former Indian Premier League commissioner, with whose help he reportedly developed contacts with cricketers. He lured both Indian and international cricketers into match-fixing,’ the source added.
Millennium Post had earlier reported Kalra’s involvement in IPL spot-fixing and his alleged D-company links.
Kalra was also in touch with top industrialists in the country who reportedly provided him with the initial amount for betting. He later returned the money along with huge profits to the industrialists. All money transactions happened through hawala.
