In yet another road accident, a truck cleaner and a pedestrian were killed when an errant driver, allegedly to save the pedestrian, lost the control over his vehicle and crushed him. Later, the truck rammed into a tree and overturned in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area on early Tuesday morning. Four other occupants of the truck also got injured and the driver has been arrested.
The incident took place when Anil, the driver of the truck was going towards Sangam Vihar with a consignment of bricks. At the time of the accident, four other occupants, identified as Pawan, Rohit, Ankit and Raju were also sitting at the back of the truck that was heading from Baghpat.
When the truck reached Gandhi Nagar area, the driver saw a man crossing the road. In a bid to save him, he applied brakes but to no avail. The unidentified pedestrian was crushed to death, police said. Further, the over-speeding truck rammed into a tree and flipped over to the other side of the road.
According to the police, the truck cleaner got critically injured as a result of the accident.
A passer-by made a call to the police control room and a team reached the spot. All the injured persons were rushed to two different hospitals — Swamy Dayanand Hospital and Lok Nayak Hospital in East Delhi, where two of them (pedestrian and truck cleaner) were declared dead. Others are undergoing treatment.
A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and the errant driver is likely to be arrested after his discharge from the hospital.
