In a daring day light bank robbery in Ghaziabad, four armed men looted over Rs 15 lakh from a cooprative bank and managed to flee the scene.
According to the police complaint lodged by the bank officers, the robbers fired in the air to scare the employees and custormers before looting the cash.
The incident happened at around 12.25 pm on Wednesday when the work in the bank was on full swing. ‘Four armed men came to the bank at around 12.25 pm. One of them stood guard at the gate and fired in the air, threatening the customers and bank employees. Meanwhile, the other three entered the bank and took Rs 15,13,500 from the cashier on gun point. All four escaped on bikes,’ said a senior officer of the bank. The bank is in the busy Maliwara market that comes under the jurisdication of Sehani Gate police station.
‘The CCTV camera installed in the cabin of the bank manager have captured two robbers,’ said S S Yadav, S P Ghaziabad. ‘The operation seems to be well planned and they seem to be aware of the area layout. We are also investigating the possible role of the bank employees in the heist,’ added Yadav. The police is screeing the CCTV recording to identify them.
Apparently, the police deploy two constables at nationalised bank branches, but this being a cooprative bank no security cover was provided, said a senior police officer.
