Family members of a 45-year-old man, who died in a road accident after being hit by a rashly- driven truck, have been awarded a compensation of nearly Rs 13 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
MACT Presiding Officer, Nikhil Chopra, directed Oriental Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending truck, to pay Rs 12,83,320 to the wife and six children of Yakoob Ali, who suffered fatal injuries after the autorickshaw he was travelling in was hit by the truck in 2008.
The tribunal, while awarding the compensation, observed, “a young person has lost his life in <g data-gr-id="13">accident</g>, leaving behind his wife and young children. No amount of money can fill the void.” It also relied on the post-mortem report of the victim, mechanical inspection reports of both the vehicles, FIR and other documents while holding the truck driver guilty. The driver was named in a <g data-gr-id="14">chargesheet</g> under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of IPC.
