Part of the road near Raj Bhavan suffered damages on Saturday which led to traffic congestion near the Strand Road area. The incident happened on the Kiran Shankar Roy Road and the Old Council House Street Junction.
According to Municipality sources, some cracks had formed on the road of that area on Friday and drainage engineers were sent there to look into the damage. They said due to the ground under the asphalt road caving in, the cracks are forming. The drainage department of the municipal corporation had started working on the problem on Friday.
A drainage pipeline dating back to the colonial era is situated near the collapsed area. The engineers have stated that after a careful investigation of the damage caused to the pipeline, if any, the repairing of the road will commence.
