One of the alliance partners of UPA Rashtriya Lok Dal has termed the constitutional amendment bill for promotion in government jobs as unconstitutional. Union minister for civil aviation Ajit Singh declared that his party was not in favour of this bill.
‘Merit is the bottomline of government service. One can not ignore merit on the basis of caste. If one says merit is not required in government sector, he is mistaken. His priority is detrimental to the interest of the country,’ Singh told reporters here on Friday.
RLD chief and minister said, our party is of opinion that a way should be found out by talking to all sections of the society so that deprived sections get a chance to progress but interests of other sections also were not hampered.
More importantly the government at some point should decide that if reservation has benefited deprived sections then how long it will continue and if it has not benefited then why. Even among dalits there are sections who has not got benefit of reservation, he said.
The amendment in constitution should be made after consensus and ensuring that differences are not created in the society. There is one problem left on the issue of seniority and I am of the opinion that some solution can be worked out, he said.
Meanwhile the union civil aviation minister, Ajit Singh, targeting Akhilesh Yadav government for being apathetic to development of UP said, it was not heeding the long pending proposals for construction of new airports in many cities which could improve connectivity of state with rest of the world.
We had asked UP government to transfer airstrips at Meerut, Faizabad and Moradabad to Airports Authority of India and also had sought land from the state to develop facilities at the Agra and Allahabad airports. However, there have been no development on this front because of unresponsive attitude of state administration.
The number of persons travelling from UP to the Persian Gulf is higher than from Kerala, while the number of flights from UP are substantially less, he said.
