Reunite municipal corporations: BJP

Update: 2014-02-08 22:48 GMT
In an administratively significant move, the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has called for reuniting the three municipal corporations — North Delhi Municipal Corporation, South DMC and East DMC — of the capital city.

Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel said that the party will set up a committee to work out a possible solution to reunite the three civic bodies of Delhi. ‘A committee under the chairmanship of Nand Kishore Garg will review the case of reuniting the three corporations. The trifurcation done by the Congress has done more harm than good,’ said Goel.

The decision was taken at a meeting of all BJP councillors and even those candidates who lost the civic elections.

In another significant development, the three municipal corporations of Delhi have decided to do away with the requirement of getting the building plan cleared for the small plot owners.

Owners of the plots under 100 square meters will no longer require a clearance from the municipal
corporations for construction as long as they follow the municipal rules. The move is likely to help lakhs of small plot owners in the city.

‘The owners of the plot up to 100 square metre will just have to give an affidavit to the coropration stating that they would follow all the municipal rules and they can do the construction without any hindrance,’ Goel said.

The party also asked the councillors to maintain best sanitation condition in their wards. It was also decided to set up a sanitation helpline at BJP’s Delhi office to hear sanitation-related complaints of the residents.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi was trifurcated in 2012. The process was followed by a provisional division of workers and officers, office buildings and cash reserves to ensure the smooth functioning of the three bodies.
