Resonating ragas

Music touches, heals and the consistent tradition of classical renditions has echoed in the surroundings since its inception. The 16th Annual Legends of India Sangeet Mahotsav was inaugurated by the Internationally acclaimed Baul singer Parvati Baul on Thursday at Gurgaon for the first time.

“Gurgaon is a happening place and many Rasikas from Gurgaon have been requesting us to host the Legends of India Classical Music in Gurgaon, said Dipayan Mazumdar, chairman, Legends of India. He further elaborated, “By presenting ‘Legends of India’, we are trying to preserve the traditions of Indian cultural heritage for the younger generation as I strongly believe that it will help them become better human beings.” 

The evening commenced with one of the celebrated Bandish of Dagar Gharana- Shiva stuti in Raaga Adana and taal sulfakta by Nirmalya Dey. Ustad Bahauddin Dagar, who represents the 20th generation of the Dagar Gharana of Dhrupad school of Indian classical music,  presented a superb rendering on the rudra veena in Raaga Puriya Kalyan. The evening concluded with an exceptional duet recital between the two maestros- Nirmalya Dey and Ustad Bahauddin in Raaga Bhairavi- Alap and Saraswati Stuti in Jhaptal accompanied by Sanjay Agle on the Pakhawaj. 

‘Morning Ragas,’ will soon be introduced in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi, (India’s National Academi for music, dance and drama). In these sessions, there will be an opportunity for the young upcoming artistes to share the platform with the legends.

For the first time in the history of ‘Legends of India’ membership shall open for the ‘Rasikas’ of classical art forms. The society shall enroll members including Institutional members drawn from all over India and abroad.
