Research on medicinal properties of Ganga

Stressing that the Centre was committed to clean the Ganga, Health Minister JP Nadda on Monday assured to provide all support for conducting a research for establishing medicinal properties of the river water and its impact on the health of people taking a dip in it. 

The Health Ministry has assured to extend support to further probe the claim made by various research and studies that the Ganga water has medicinal properties, which can kill several kinds of bacteria and microbes.

Nadda said in a world where more powerful drug resistant bacteria and germs are increasing, a study to find out a unique property to Ganga water that not only destroys germs and microbes present in it, but also purifies other water bodies, is worth conducting.

“Ganga as a sacred river that has many interconnected and layered values to it – be it cultural, spiritual, economical and environmental. The river, flowing through 2,600 km and crossing many states, nurtures these regions by providing livelihood options to many, in addition to irrigation the banks and the plains,” Nadda said at a workshop on ‘Non-Putrefying Properties of Ganga Water.
Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti and activist Krishna Gopal were also present.
