Singh hails from Aurangabad district in Bihar and is the son of a former senior cop. “Singh, who has executed all high-profile kidnappings, became a part of the abduction syndicate in 1997. The role of Singh is also under  the scanner in the abduction of the kin of Siwan DM Sanjay Kumar Singh and former BJP president Gopal Narain Singh’s relative Ravi Ranjan Singh,” a highly-placed source told Millennium Post.

While talking to Millennium Post over phone, UP Director General of Police (DGP) Arvind Kumar Jain said, “The Special Task Force of UP police with the help of Bihar police cracked the case on Wednesday.

The STF raided a flat on the ninth floor of a high-rise Sharda Apartment in the posh Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow this afternoon and caught hold of the criminals, who held the couple demanding Rs 15 crore as ransom for their release.”

According to sources, the Fortuner SUV of Ravi Ranjan Singh, a mining contractor kidnapped earlier, has also been recovered from their possession along with the Audi SUV of the doctor couple. It’s worth mentioning that Ravi Ranjan Singh was freed after being held captive for a month at various locations in UP, but his SUV was taken by abductors.

Jain said that the kidnappers were tracked through surveillance of the STF in coordination with the Bihar police, adding that UP police was investigating the owner of flat in which the kidnapped persons were kept.

Notably, Gaya physician Pankaj Gupta and his wife Shobhra Gupta, an entrepreneur, were kidnapped from Grand Trunk Road while they were returning from Giridih in Jharkhand after attending a family function on May 1. The couple went missing along with their new Audi SUV soon after they crossed the Barhi toll plaza on GT Road in Jharkhand.
