Delhi government is carrying out replacement of 10 expansion joints in two carriageways of the Ashram Chowk Flyover which were due for change after completion of their service life.
‘The existing expansion joints are slab seal type of joints which are now not in practice and not being manufactured by many of the approved vendors. ‘Hence, due to excessive gap in adjoining slabs, the decision has been taken to replacement them with modular slab seal joints,’ said Arun Baroka, Secretary (PWD).
Baroka said said that the work of replacement of joints started on 22 August and initially the time period planned was four months (two months on each carriageway). The work has been planned to be carried out in half of the carriageway at a time so that traffic can apply on the other half of the carriageway.
Baroka said that the latest technology of rapid hardening concrete is being used in replacement of the expansion joints to save time for closure of traffic.
