Delhi government on Tuesday has decided to enhance rehabilitation grant to the released prisoners. The quantum of rehabilitation grant would depend upon the period of incarcerated prisoner.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had instructed the home department to review the existing rehabilitation grant in view of the present inflationary trend as well as the financial requirement for settlement after release.
After due consideration, the chief minister decided to effect 100 per cent hike in the existing rehabilitation grant. Further, women prisoners would be given Rs 5,000 additional amount as a token of affirmative consideration to the female prisoners. The released prisoners after a period of six month to five years as incarceration would be paid a rehabilitation grant of Rs 30,000 instead of Rs 15,000.
Similarly, the released persons after a period of five years to 10 years as incarceration would become entitled to a rehabilitation grant amounting to Rs 40,000 instead of Rs 20,000.
The amount of rehabilitation grant would go up from existing Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 in respect of incarceration period of more than 10 years.
Dikshit while considering the hardship of women prisoners, instructed to give them an additional amount. Hence, women prisoners released from the jail would be given Rs 5,000 additional.
Their quantum of rehabilitation grant will be Rs 35,000, Rs 45,000 and Rs 55,000 respectively.
