The Delhi government is taking its global city makeover pretty seriously. The desire to wear an international make-up has made the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation go the Metro way — renaming its chain of liquor vends as Metro Spirit chain.
The corporation presently runs a chain of 112 liquor shops in the city among those 93 are Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) shops and 19 are Country Liquor shops. ‘These liquor shops need makeover and branding to attract youths who generally go to private shops for purchasing liquor. We have almost finalised the brand name — Metro Spirit, for our chain of liquor shops,’ said a senior officer of the DSCSC.
‘Besides brand name, we are also designing a logo and matching dress for staff for better branding,’ added the official. He further added that the aim of the corporation is to provide the best possible facilities and environment to its customers visiting our liquor vends. ‘In each shop we will maintain facility so that customer could walk in and pick up the brand of his or her choice. They will not have to wait in queue,’ he added.
‘In each Metro Spirit shop we will be providing exclusive pub for customers and polite waiters to serve the liquor,’ added the official. Presently, these shops are known as IMFL shops are identified as L-6 Vends and Country Liquor Shops as
CL Vends in the government records.
These shops are situated in almost all the major markets of the city including, Khan Market, Mehar Chand Market, Gole Market, Yashwant Palace, Saket and
Defence Colony.
The corporation is also planning to open 15 more shops in the current financial year in the city to boost its liquor sale.
‘In current financial year, we have a revenue target of 20 per cent above we had achieved in 2012-13. We are very confident that we will surpass the target after introducing our branding strategy,’ said the official.
The corporation in 2012-13 had sold liquor amounting Rs 808.39 crore which was Rs 747.38 crore in 2011-12. The corporation has recently started selling country liquor in its six IMFL shops.
