The Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra presented the 59th edition of the spectacular “Ramlila” which is a beautiful amalgamation of reality and idealism. It is about magnificent costumes, masterful lighting, perfect choreography and music. The Ramlila was inaugurated by Kathak Samrat Pandit Birju Maharaj (Padma Vibhushan) on Tuesday.
Shobha Deepak Singh’s in-depth, meticulous research on the Ramayan stands reflected in the ‘Ramlila’, which portrays familiar and endearing incidents from the epic Ramayana including the <g data-gr-id="27">banvas</g> of the revered ‘Ram’, Sita’s unwavering love and faith in the face of several personal predicaments, Ravana’s crafty strategies, Ram’s unquestioning obedience to his father, his graceful acceptance and addressing of adversities of daily existence, his ability to transcend barriers of caste and creed through acceptance of <g data-gr-id="28">Shabri’s</g> fruits and Hanuman’s gigantic effort in getting the Sanjivani <g data-gr-id="29">booti</g>.
Shobha Deepak Singh said, “As in previous years, this year’s show is also thoroughly researched. The performance has grown in production value such as charisma and authenticity of the costumes, choreography, music, lights and sets. The show is therefore endearing. In Sita’s <g data-gr-id="26">portrayal</g> there is power to the woman, in her graceful coming <g data-gr-id="25">in to</g> her own, in the face of trials and tribulations. There is a change in the cast of the lead characters. Also there are new dancers, playing some of the lead roles for the first time.”
Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra’s “Ramlila” has enjoyed the presence of eminent individuals in the audience including Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Late Zail Singh, Late Indira Gandhi, Late Dr Radhakrishnan, Late Lal Bahadur Shastri, Atal Behari Vajpayee, Late Rajiv Gandhi, Late Fakruddin Ali Ahmed, Late Dr. Zakir Hussain, Shri Sanjiva Reddy and several others.
