A criminal who was wanted in a kidnapping and rape case, and had been on the run for the past 7 years, has been arrested by the crime branch of Delhi police on Sunday.
'During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had kidnapped a minor girl from Delhi in October, 2006 and had forcibly taken her to Bhiwandi, Maharashtra,' said a police official.
The girls were rescued by the police team and brought back to her family in Delhi after two days. However, Akram had been evading arrest for the past 7 years.
'We received information that a criminal involved in a kidnapping and rape case of a minor girl and who has been absconding for the past 7 years, is hiding somewhere in Maharashtra,' said a police officer.
Acting on the information, a raid was conducted in Kalyan Road, Bhiwandi, Maharashtra and the accused was arrested. He was identified as Akram.
