Ramjas College not to avail services of forensics

Update: 2014-06-12 23:41 GMT
Ramjas College will do away with the forensic experts who were hired at the time of admissions to verify the documents.

In the wake of fake-admission scandal that rocked the college two years ago in which over 40 marks-sheets were found to be fake, the college started appointing forensic experts, well-equipped to deal with fake documents.

Rajendra Prasad, principal of the college said that the college staff is now well-trained to identify fake documents. ‘The verification of the documents will be done by administrative officers only. They are trained enough to check falsified documents,’ said Prasad.

Ramjas was the first college in DU to use the services of forensic experts. The college has spent nearly Rs 6,70,000 in the last two years in hiring forensic experts.

But like other colleges, Ramjas will also depend on information provided by the university in CDs, which contains Class 12 results of various state and central boards.

When in doubt, the colleges verify the documents with the issuing authority only. ‘Most of the boards’ results are not there in the CD provided by the university. In that case, we ask the students to get their documents verified with from the issuing authority,’ said Jaswinder Singh, principal of SGTB Khalsa College.

VC Misra, a forensic science expert who had also provided his services to Ramjas said that fake documents can be identified as the originals have a special ink and other such security features.
‘We check glow of the ink, logos, background details, thickness, touch and feel of the paper, while examining forged documents’, said Mishra.
