Meanwhile AAP on Tuesday withdrew the candidature of Mahendra Singh from the North West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency for his alleged involvement in criminal cases. Former Delhi minister Rakhi Birla will be fielded from the seat, a party official said.
‘The decision was taken by the party, as he gave some personal reasons,’ said an Aam Aadmi Party leader. He said Singh has agreed to withdraw from the contest.
Singh said that he would continue to help the party and has no complaints with the party’s decision. ‘I will still be a (party) member and campaign (for AAP),’ he said, adding that the party was free to pick the best available candidate.
Earlier, an AAP leader said that the party was unaware of the cases filed against Singh, a social activist. Rakhi Birla, a former journalist, was the youngest minister in the 49-day-long Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi.
