Rajnath to discuss terrorism in Israel

Update: 2014-10-25 00:05 GMT
Union home minister Rajnath Singh will travel to Israel and is scheduled to meet prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on 6 November. Singh’s visit will be the first for an Indian home minister to Israel since June 2000 when LK Advani visited Tel Aviv to strengthen relationship. Then, Advani had met former President Ezer Weizman, and heads of the local intelligence community, Mossad chief Ephraim Halevi and Shabak (security service) chief Avi Dichter among others.

PM Narendra Modi had met his Israeli counterpart Netanyahu on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York last month. At the meeting, Netanyahu had told Modi that ‘sky is the limit’ in terms of prospects of cooperation between the two countries, seeking ‘greater and greater’ ties with India. It was learnt that Modi wanted Singh to visit Israel to seal deals meant for upgrading India’s defence system.

Israel’s National Security Advisor Joseph Cohen on Thursday concluded his three-day visit to Delhi where he met Singh, his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval and senior diplomats at the MEA.
