Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday assured full security to NIT students in Srinagar, saying they should not worry about their safety in the wake of clashes between two groups after the India-West Indies cricket match on Thursday.

Singh called up Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar and asked them to ensure proper security to the students.

"I assure the students that they should not worry about their security. I have spoken to the Governor and the DGP regarding the situation. I have instructed the DGP to send a team of officers to NIT, Srinagar to assure the students of their safety and security," he said here.

The Home Minister's statement came after clashes occurred at NIT, Srinagar following team India's defeat against West Indies in the World Cup T20 semi-final.

Two group of students, one from Kashmir and another from other states, fought after some students burst crackers after India's defeat, leading the shut down of the institute.

Meanwhile, in a veiled attack on the Akhilesh Yadav dispensation in Uttar Pradesh, Rajnath Singh said that a government which cannot redress problems of the people has no right to continue in power on moral grounds.

“I am of the opinion that a government, which cannot redress the problems of its people, has no right to continue in power on moral grounds,” he said at ‘Adhikaar Dilao Rally’ here.

He said that crying about shortage of funds was wrong.

“I too had been the Chief Minister and I know that state exchequer is like ‘kuber’s treasure’. You only need intention,” he said.

Singh said “fooling” people by saying there was shortage of fund was wrong.

“The money allocated by the Centre to the state from central taxes is highest in independent India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hiked states’ share from 32 per cent to 42 per cent,” he said.
