The Rajasthan government has already started working on setting up an inquiry commission against ‘controversial land deal at Thar’ by Robert Vadra, who is also the son-in-law of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Speaking to Millennium Post BJP senior spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar said, ‘They have taken the initiative at the government level.’
When asked whether they are serious about inquiring the matter following a demand from their MPs, he said, ‘We are very serious to probe the land deal and have already started the necessary process required to inquire at the state level.’
It seems that with the Cabinet clearance to set up of an inquiry commission to probe the ‘snoopgate’ controversy against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, the BJP will soon probe Vadra’s alleged ‘murkier’ land deal in Rajasthan.
Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi, broke the land deal during the former Congress chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s tenure in 2009.
Recently, five BJP MPs have written to the new Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje demanding for a probe under the Commissions of Inquiry Act into Vadra’s land deals in the state during the reign of the Congress government.
The five MPs – Ravi Shankar Prasad, Arjun Meghwal, JP Nadda, Bhupinder Yadav and Rajendra Aggarwal –have requested the Rajasthan government for a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities in the land purchased by Vadra and his companies near Bikaner.
‘There is a land ceiling Act in Rajasthan and when an ordinary person violates it, he faces action. Vadra and his companies have openly violated the Act and this was ignored by the then Congress government despite repeated complaints. There is a need for a transparent probe into the matter,’ their letter reads.
In 2009, Vavasi group had signed an MoU with Ashok Gehlot Congress government to set up a silicon manufacturing complex at Kolayat with an investment of Rs 45,000 crore. Anticipating, good returns, North India IT Powers Pvt Ltd owned by Vadra bought 311 acres of land near Bikaner-Kolayat road near Baap village in Jodhpur district.
The land was bought in small chunks from farmers. The biggest chunk 161 acres was bought at Kolayat by Vadra’s company North India IT Powers for Rs 1.2 crore. Six other chunks measuring a total of 151 acres were bought for Rs 2.43 crore by other companies including Real Earth Real Estate Pvt. Ltd, Sky Lite Realty Pvt. Ltd and Sky Lite Hospitality in which Vadra reportedly have some stake.
Since, then controversy started haunting Vadra after it was found from the revenue department of Bikaner that the land registration for the purchase was done on the basis of wasteland rate decided by the government. Vadra bought the wasteland at a cheap rate to sell it to individual companies at higher prices for setting up a solar park.
