Rains lash Delhi, more likely through the week

The rain on Saturday afternoon brought respite from sweltering heat but forced the traffic to crawl at several places in the city due to waterlogging. The weathermen have predicted light to moderate rain throughout the coming week.

‘There was 37.6 mm of rain by 5.30 pm on Saturday,’ said a senior MeT official. According to the records of weather department Delhi, the average rainfall in Delhi by July end should be around 295.6 mm but in this season the total rainfall so far have been 149.1mm.

The maximum temperature on Saturday was 35.3 degree Celsius, which was one degree above normal while the minimum was recorded at 29.1 degree Celsius, which was two notches above normal. The weathermen have predicted the maximum and minimum temperatures on Sunday to hover around 35 and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

According to traffic police officers, waterlogging was reported from several places which led to traffic jam in the city. Places from where major waterlogging was reported includes Chirag Delhi, Nehru Place, BM Road, ITR Flyover, Adhchini, Moti Bag Chowk, Malviya Nagar T point, DC Saket office, Munirka, Arbindo Marg and Yusuf Sarai.
