Rains halt life in Guwahati, all schools to be closed today

In a statement, Kamrup Metro district administration said all government and private schools and colleges will be closed Tuesday due to flooding of various areas in the city.

‘The schools and colleges, which have examinations, will have to fix a new schedule for the same,’ it added.

The district administration has informed that heavy rainfall is expected in the city on Tuesday.

‘Today, the Chandmari area witnessed 101.76 mm rainfall while it was 63 mm at Basistha area,’ the release said.

Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner A Angamuthu said the district administration is fully equipped to deal with the situation created by unprecedented rainfall.

Besides rainfall in the city, the situation became worse in view of heavy downpour in bordering Meghalaya.

The district administration has already put in place six boats, 23 pumps and sufficient numbers of rickshaw at various inundated areas under the supervision of Magistrate, while designated NGOs are keeping strict vigil on the situation.
