With groundwater depletion continuing in the city, the AAP government directed all public authorities to ensure that Rain Water Harvesting systems are installed in every project including flyovers, bridges or any other construction activity carried out by the government.
The decision was taken during the meeting of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Tuesday evening. “Availability of surface water in Delhi is limited and is dependent on river water sharing among the riparian states and interstate agreements, therefore, there is an urgent need to preserve groundwater resources and to take measures for its sustainable availability,” Kapil Mishra said.
For bringing about overall improvement of the water supply system, the Board has accorded approval to the proposal for the construction of the 23.60 ML capacity UGR and BPS along with peripheral water mains at Shakur Basti, Harsh Vihar.
The construction of 23.60 ML capacity UGR and BPS will help in improving water supply in Harsh Vihar, Shakurpur, Shakurpur Village, Rani Bagh, Pushpanjali Enclave, West Enclave and other adjoining areas. The estimated cost for the construction is Rs 50.17 crore.
