Rai to host convention of states, UTs against Centre’s anti-labour measures
Opening another front against the Central government, Delhi’s Transport Minister Gopal Rai is organising a convention of Construction Labour Welfare Board (CLWB) of all the states and Union Territories on Friday.
“The Central government has taken another anti-labour step by issuing a notification thereby taking over the power of constituting CLWF in all the states besides powers to appoint chairpersons,” said Rai. He informed that earlier, this power was vested with the state governments.
“Its complete encroachment in the powers of the states and we have received consent of secretaries of several CLWF of BJP-ruled states to participate in the convention,” added Rai. As per the claims of Rai, the representatives of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa are also coming to Delhi to share their views besides several NGOs and labour associations of various states.
In the day-long meeting, a proposal will also be passed against the notification of the Central government.
“We will submit the proposal to the Central government with a demand to roll back the decision,” he added warning a countrywide agitation if demands are not met.
