Travails of the former UPA government are just refusing to stub. Latest, in the now long list of incriminatory disclosures, comes from Vinod Rai, the former Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Rai, in his tell all, Not Just an Accountant has accused politicians from the previous government of dropping by at his residence to get him to leave out names from the auditor’s reports on the Coalgate and the Commonwealth Games scams respectively. Rai, who accused the UPA government for its dubious role in the 2G and the Coalgate scams, has further in his book, put former PM Manmohan Singh in the dock for failing to take essential decisions which caused huge losses to the government exchequer.
It is not the first time that the ex-PM has been questioned by senior bureaucrats in their confessions about his silence on various matters that required the government’s immediate attention then. Rai, in fact becomes the third person who has questioned the UPA government’s connivance in matters related to wide scale corruption at various stages. Prior to him, PC Parakh, the former Coal Secretary and Sanjaya Baru, media advisor to former PM Manmohan Singh had revealed in their respective accounts about the government’s alleged ineffectiveness to contain corruption. Recently, K. Natwar Singh, once a Nehru-Gandhi family confidante levelled allegations at the Congress party too. It feels as if that the mess left by the previous government is fast turning into an unmanageable behemoth for its leaders. With this slew of bare all accounts hogging attention, we are forced to assume that there might still be many more veritable descriptions which would go a long way to further expose the excesses of the previous government, specifying the highly suspicious roles played by its leaders and politicians in great detail.
