Rahul praises Dikshit, hits out at Opposition

He complained that though the Congress has always been serious about getting the bill passed, the Opposition is hell bent on creating obstacles.

Addressing a mammoth rally in north-west Delhi’s Mangolpuri area, Rahul said that the Congress was committed to giving proper representation to the ordinary youths in elected bodies to enable them to contribute substantially in the country’s growth story.

In a bid to highlight the development works carried out by chief minister Sheila Dikshit, Rahul claimed that the national capital has witnessed an unprecedented development during the last 15 years under Dikshit’s leadership.

‘We would not allow the development to be stopped or stalled. We would also ensure that Delhi continues to develop and flourish,’ said Gandhi. He pointed at the ‘transport infrastructure, world-class airport, hundreds of flyovers and round-the-clock power supply’ in an effort to showcase the achievements of the Delhi government.

Sticking to city issues, he said Delhi Metro’s model is being adopted even by foreign countries such as Indonesia and that the UPA government has given a ‘shining and world-class’ airport to Delhiites.

‘Those who come from outside, we hold their hands and march ahead along with them,’ Gandhi said reaching out to people who have settled in Delhi from other states, mainly Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Rahul said that his party has been enacting laws in the interests of the poor, whereas the Opposition does not even think of them.

‘We have given right to education and employment. The right to information has ensured openness and transparency. The Congress party provided the right to food despite resistance from the opposition on the funding for food for poor. We made available the required food because we don’t want to see any person go hungry in the country,’ the Gandhi scion said.

‘True Congressmen would always remain ready to help the poor at all cost. That’s why the Congress has been raising the voice of the poor and other weaker sections of the society and the Opposition has been concentrating on adopting newer theatrics to take political mileage,’ Rahul said.

Speaking in the same vein, All India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge Shakeel Ahmed said that Delhi is home to not only people from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, but from other states as well, while BJP is aligning with Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray, who have been attacking Hindi-speaking people in Maharashtra.
