The Punjab government has decide to impart free education to eligible girl child up to class 12th increasing the ambit of Bebe Nanki scheme. Under the Punjab government’s most ambitious, ‘Bebe Nanki Ladli Beti Kalyan Scheme’, the families of all the girl children born after 1 January, 2011, would be eligible for financial assistance up to 12th standard for imparting quality education.
Disclosing this here on Tuesday, Madan Mohan Mittal, minister for social security and women & child development, said that the state government has started Bebe Nanki Ladli Beti Kalyan scheme to check the ever-increasing menace of female foeticide and to impart quality education to the girls in the state besides extending financial assistance to the poor families in bringing up the girl child. Minister said that those orphan girls, who have been found after 1 January, 2011 and who are living in destitute, children homes in the state, would also be eligible for the financial assistance for their education up to 12th standard. He said that to attain the financial benefits there would be no effect of the number of girls already born in the family. The benefit would be given to those families, whose annual income is less than Rs.30,000. He further said that proof of income of Rs.30,000, would be the Blue Card issued by Department of Food and Civil Supplies. The families of only those girls would be considered for the financial assistance under this scheme, who were permanent resident of Punjab, he said.
