The city's reputation for being a conducive centre of study took another beating on Monday when it was reported that over 300 young students and professionals were picked up by the local police after midnight while they were partying. A TV channel claimed that the police raided the Maya Bar and Lounge on the city periphery where a party was going on.
The police detained the partying youngsters for about 11 hours and charged them for indecent behaviour. A young girl claimed that male police personnel pushed her around. She said, 'I had gone to the bar with my friends to celebrate my birthday... I was pushed by a male constable and then slapped by a woman constable.'
