Protesters threaten to litter outside Kapil Mishra’s house

As the strike called by unions of the three Municipal Corporations in the city entered the fifth day, heaps of garbage were found dumped on streets and open areas, causing inconvenience to commuters and residents.

East Delhi has been the worst hit as protesters not just dumped garbage on roads but also blocked traffic.

Protests were also witnessed outside offices of the three Muncipal Corporations,  including zonal offices.

The civic bodies’ workers staged a protest outside the residences of Delhi ministers such as Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Health/ PWD Minister Satyendra Jain and Transport Minister Gopal Rai.

The workers have announced to stage a protest  and liiter outside Water and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra’s residence on Monday.

North MCD Mayor Ravinder Gupta on Sunday released a financial statement regarding the salary payment and grant-in-aid from the Delhi government. “In the last couple of years, we have released Rs 2,138 crore and Rs 2,137 crore for salary payment, while the government has given only Rs 531 and Rs 546 crore,” said Gupta.

Meanwhile, over 7,000 doctors and 15,000 nurses in MCD-run hospitals also joined the strike called by sanitation staff over immediate release of salaries, arrears and other allowances.

The striking MCD workers have upped the ante by threatening to hold demonstrations and dump garbage in various areas. This comes even as the Delhi government and the MCDs are engaged in a blamegame.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled corporations are accusing the state of engaging in petty politics by not releasing funds, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has maintained that it has released the funds to the MCDs on time.
