A 24-year-old youth allegedly slashed the nose of his would-be brother-in-law and physically assaulted other family members of his would-be wife at their residence in North-west Delhi’s Pitampura area, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Raghu, was agitated with the marriage – scheduled on April 15 – being called off by his prospective bride’s family, said a police official.
According to the police, Raghu allegedly went to his prospective bride’s residence on April 8 and entered into an argument with his would-be father-in-law. Later, Raghu also allegedly roughed up with him, after which he called off the wedding, scheduled to take place exactly after a week.
On Sunday evening, Raghu again allegedly went to his prospective in-laws’ residence with an
associate, identified as Vikas.
They were allegedly drunk and wanted to meet the woman with whom Raghu was about to get married. On being stopped, they entered into an argument with the woman’s brother, Kamlesh, said a police source. In his complaint, Kamlesh told the police that Raghu suddenly pulled out a knife from his pocket and attacked on his face. His nose was slashed by the alleged assault.
Raghu also allegedly stabbed on the arm of another relative, who had actually come for the scheduled marriage.
However, Raghu and Vikas could not flee the scene. The neighbours of his would-be in-laws got hold of them and allegedly thrashed them before calling up the police control room.
The duo were booked under relevant sections of the IPC and arrested immediately by the police.
The police also rushed Kamlesh to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for the severe injury, the police source added.
