Property feud with husband could have led to Rehana’s murder

Aleem, who was in Saudi Arabia on Haj pilgrimage reached the country on Thursday evening. His interrogation is likely to start on Friday.

Sources said property could be the reason behind the brutal murder. The victim Rehana had filed a complaint against her husband earlier this year in a property dispute.

On Wednesday morning, Rehana (40) wife of Bulandshahr MLA Haji Aleem Chaudhray was found murdered at her residence in north-east’s New Jafrabad area. She was stabbed at least 10 times, shot twice and her neck was slit. The accused is yet to be identified.

Sources in Delhi police told Millennium Post that Rehana, who stayed alone at her residence could have been murdered over a property issue. Flat No. 40 in B-Block of New Jafrabad was bought by Aleem in 2006. The flat was registered both in the name of Rehana and Aleem.

Aleem and his family reportedly wanted to sell off the flat that presently costs over Rs 1 crore.
‘Rehana was instructed by her in-laws to shift to Bulandshahr, the home town of Aleem, so that they could sell the property. Rehana had refused to sell off the flat and that has strained her relationship with Aleem and his family,’ the source added.

VV Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (north-east) said, ‘According to the preliminary investigation, it seems that the motive behind the murder is either a property issue or a personal enmity. So far, after questioning more than 50 persons including the family, relatives and friends we haven’t got any clue about any personal enmity.’

Millennium Post has also learnt that a case was lodged by Rehana against her husband Aleem at the Crime against Women Cell in Krishna Nagar.

However, the senior official at the police station refused to disclose the charges framed against Aleem on the basis of the complaint. Chaudhary added, ‘We are looking into the matter and also investigating the case as per the former complaint.’
