Who is Gaganjeet Dhawan? The name cropped up in course of investigations into the money laundering deals of infamous meat exporter Moin Qureshi. Income Tax investigation has revealed that in fact it is Gaganjeet Dhawan who is the link in the powerful nexus between the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha, an erstwhile powerful functionary and Qureshi.
It is in fact Dhawan, according to sources, who is the link between Sinha and the political secretary to the president of a national party. Interestingly, Gaganjeet Dhawan, said sources, has visited the house of Sinha about 90 times. Dhawan for an occupation runs printing press called RR Printers based in Faridabad. He currently lives in Vasant Kunj in the capital.
While Dhawan’s link with Qureshi and his predecessor AP Singh, who is also under cloud, is clear to Income Tax sleuths, they are now trying to establish his association with Qureshi and the powerful politician.
Another name which has come up in this case is of RP Gupta who is business partner of Moin Qureshi, said sources. He is also known as ‘naneji’ in close circles. Gupta has been very close to Qureshi and has been involved closely in the latter’s dealings.
Adding to the list of dubious accomplices of Qureshi and Sinha is the name of general manager, Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Ltd (CMPDI), Ranchi - Mithilesh Kumar. He is known for his closeness to Sinha for a long time. Mithilesh Kumar’s brother Vinod is a serving incoming tax commissioner.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has already asked the central government to submit the income tax appraisal report on Qureshi by 17 October. Qureshi had allegedly met CBI director Ranjit Sinha 90 times in the last 15 months. The apex court has also directed the CBI not to file any report in trial court closing any coal scam case till then.
Millennium Post in February this year had first reported an income tax raid which exposed Qureshi’s firm AMQ Agro India was indulging in nefarious activities. The seized documents indicated Qureshi was working as a middleman on behalf of a former CBI director and in various sensitive cases many accused have paid a lot of bribe which were traced mostly to Dubai bank accounts.
