The Corporations, as announced earlier, have claimed to complete the survey and identification of areas in order to raze them. During the survey it was also found that over a hundred buildings are dangerous across the Capital which have put lives of the occupants in danger. The MCDs, after sending them notices earlier, have claimed to demolish a few of them.

The pre-Monsoon survey report of the North Corporation has shown at-least 35 buildings were identified as dangerous this year while a similar number of building have reportedly been identified from the South Corporation areas. The EDMC has also identified dozens of vulnerable structures in its area and the agency has claimed to have initiated action against them.

The North MCD has issued its data officially while the remaining two civic bodies have yet to come up with the official data. The report released by the North Corporation said that out of those identified as dangerous, two buildings have been demolished fully while two have been partly demolished and demolition is in progress in three others locations.

Last year, the civic body had identified 293 buildings in City zone, 117 in SP zone, and one such building in Rohini zone, while this year it has identified only three in City zone, 28 in Sadar Pahar zone, three in Civil Line zone and one such building in Narala zone.

During a survey of dangerous buildings of North Corporation, 27 buildings were demolished in 2012, 10 buildings in 2013 and 3 buildings were demolished in 2014 in City zone. In SP Zone, three buildings were demolished in 2013, while Karol Bagh zone saw one demolition each in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

In 2014, two buildings of Rohini zone were partly demolished. In Civil Line zone, two buildings were demolished in 2013.Before the onset of Monsoons, the East and North Delhi Municipal Corporations had launched a drive in the upcoming days wherein they would demolish buildings that can pose a risk to human life.

“Every Monsoon we witness building collapse incidents which cause risk to the human lives. The agencies, even after taking measures before and after the incident, face wrath of the people hence, we have decided to identify weak and old structures and to raze them on time,” said a senior MCD official.

As per rules and regulations, civil engineers of the MCDs conduct the survey to identify the dangerous buildings and judge the buildings’ strength. Officials said the action depends upon the degree of damage. An inspection team picks a particular area of every zone to spot dangerous buildings.
