Update: 2014-08-10 23:19 GMT
A 17-year-old boy was found dead with his throat slit in Sadar Bazar area of north Delhi on Saturday reportedly following a brawl over water, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Idu, a resident of Bihar who had been living with his relatives in Kumharon Wali Gali in the area since the last one year and did random jobs.

According to family members, he had gone to fetch cold water from the community cooler where he had heated arguments with a group of boys who were already present there. Idu was later found lying in a pool of blood.

However, the police have not formally confirmed the cause of the alleged murder yet. ‘It looks like the victim was attacked by more than one person who got involved in the incident due to sudden provocation,’ Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north), said. However, he did not rule out personal enmity.

The case is being investigated from all possible angles and a case of murder under section 302 of IPC has been registered against the unidentified men, who are still absconding, he added.

According to an eyewitness, when the victim had gone out to refill his water bottle at night with cold water from the community water cooler, there were already a few others standing there.

Soon, an argument broke out regarding who would fill water first which eventually turned violent leading to the victim’s death. Idu’s family has been informed and the body has been sent for post-mortem, said a police official.
