Posts of principals, teachers lying vacant in several DU colleges

The Delhi University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi has inherited a unique legacy from his predecessors — principal-less colleges. According to an inquiry by Millennium Post, out of the 77 colleges under the university, close to 22 colleges don’t have a permanent principal.

Prestigious colleges of DU, including Hindu College, Hansraj College, Kirori Mal College and Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), at present do not have a regular principal and the administration work are being supervised by either an acting principal or an officer “On Special Duty” (OSD). In some of these colleges, the post of principal is lying vacant for at least five years.

University teachers have been demanding for fresh appointment in the colleges for posts ranging from principal to teachers but till date nothing has materialised.

“The previous V-C, Professor Dinesh Singh, took three years to initiate the recruitment and formed a selection committee to look into the matter of appointment but the newly-appointed V-C scrapped the selection committee without setting a time frame for the appointment of the new committee,” Abha Dev Habib, an EC member of DU said.

The teachers of DU said not only the principal posts but also around 4,000 permanent teachers’ posts are to be filled up. Since more than four years these posts have are lying vacant.
