The gruesome murder of 40-year-old dentist Pankaj Narang in Vikaspuri area has finally pushed the police to wake up and talk about the need of a Jan Sampark session in the area.
Jan Sampark sessions are an initiative by the cops to establish a connection between the police and locals.
However, it is sad to note that it took the cops a death of a doctor to wake up from slumber. Earlier, Millennium Post had reported that 35 PCR calls to Vikaspuri police station out of a 100 calls are from Indra Camp, the slum cluster where all the accused belong to.
On Saturday, Joint Commissioner of Police (South-west), Dependra Pathak, refuted the claims that the people staying in Indra Camp are Bangladeshis and rather focussed on the need of a Jan Sampark in the area.
Pathak said: “There is a need for Jan Sampark in this area. We have had successful Jan Samparks in Uttam Nagar. Next Saturday, definitely there is going to be a workshop.”
Pathak also added: “There are a lot of young people who leave their school and indulge in petty jobs . Through the Jan Sampark ie community programme, we will bring into light the problems of the camp and through dialogues, will try to work on them.”
Meanwhile, friends and neighbours of Dr Pankaj Narang on Saturday met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and requested security for his family. After the meeting, the Delhi Chief Minister said he spoke to the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, who immediately agreed to it.
“Friends n neighbours of Dr Narang met me today n requested police protection for family n police patrolling in area,” Kejriwal tweeted.
“I spoke to LG, who immediately agreed. They also advised me to visit the family after a few days as family was in shock rt now,” he said.
A senior police officer claimed the matter was communicated to the police following which some cops have been deployed outside Dr Narang’s house since Friday.
The 40-year-old dentist was beaten to death by a group of about 12 people at his residence in Vikaspuri area on Wednesday night, following which nine of them, including four juveniles and a middle-aged woman, have been apprehended.
Narang was dragged out of his house and beaten with cricket bats, iron rods and sticks following an argument over a bike grazing the doctor’s eight-year-old son.
Post the cold blooded murder of Dr Pankaj Narang, several people made a beeline to the dentist’s residence.
These included the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dr Vivek Kumar, MLA Jarnail Singh, Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta and a group of social activists, who raised slogans against the Delhi Police.
Dr Vivek Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Patel Nagar) said: “We are going as per the police investigation. We are in talks with the local residents who have raised their grievances about their safety in the absence of the colony gates. No separate inquiry is being carried out.”
On the other hand, MLA Jarnail Singh visited the dentist’s residence but left within a few minutes.
