The first day also saw the departure of India’s wild card entry Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan as he lost the first Singles match against Czech player Jiri Vesely 5-7, 2-6.

Canada’s Pospisil, who came in the limelight after beating John Isner (USA), Radek Stepanek, Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic) and Nikolay Davydenko (Russia) in the Rogers Cup - ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Canada this year, outplayed his British opponent in many areas.

The 32-ranked Canadian easily took the lead over Edmund after the first-set win. However, Edmund came back strongly in the second set and showed some beautiful shots to stun higher-ranked Pospisil. The Canadian kept himself calm throughout the match and took the match to the tie-breaker. Here, Pospisil displayed his class with brilliant skills and won his first match in the ATP 250 tournament.
