The discussions on the budget 2014-15 of the three local civic bodies, which will start on Monday with the presentation of estimated budget statements by the commissioners of South Delhi Municipal Corporation and East Delhi Municipal Corporation, largely depends on the new city government. According to sources, the commissioners of the three municipal corporations will propose a hike in parking rates, tax rates, more taxes and some new projects.
On Monday, South DMC commissioner will present his budget estimates in the meeting of standing committee and at the same time East DMC commissioner S Kumarswamy will also present the budget in East Delhi. The commissioner of North DMC PK Gupta is scheduled to present his budget estimates on Tuesday. As standing committee chairman of South Delhi Rajesh Gehlot and chairman of North DMC Ram Kishan Singhal are contesting assembly elections, it is for the first time deputy chairmen of both these corporations will preside over the budget meetings of the respective commissioners.
‘The new government will decide the budget and financial health of these corporations. BJP has already declared to waive off loans on these corporations given by Delhi,’ said Vijay Goel, Delhi BJP chief. ‘There will not be any financial crisis in these corporations as we are going to make government in the city,’ he added.
But if Congress wins, the financial situation of the corporations is likely to worsen as earlier. ‘The budgets presented by the commissioners will be debated in the standing committee and house to give it a final shape,’ said spokesperson of MCD.
