Police yet to file FIR in PMO vehicle accident case

Update: 2013-01-29 23:43 GMT
A day has passed since a 37-year-old man was hit by a red beacon car deployed for PMO’s special protection group, but the Delhi police yet to register  a case against the driver of the car.

The errant driver allegedly jumped the red light and rammed into a motorcycle.

Instead of filing a case under negligence and rash driving of Indian Penal Code, as suggested by a criminal lawyer, the accused was released without any investigation. When asked about it, a senior police official investigating the matter said, ‘It was not his fault. Suresh Kumar, the victim, was coming from the wrong side. The driver tried to apply brake to avoid the collision.’

Cops are now blaming the motorcyclist of being drunk while driving. The accident took place late Sunday evening at Dhaula Khan in south Delhi.

Even if the victim was drunk, a case against the victim must be lodged under the section of drunken driving. But it seems that the Delhi police are busy avoid ing any kind of investigation in this case.

Late Sunday evening, Suresh Kumar, a resident of Dakshin Puri, was making his way on his motorcycle from Moti Bagh towards his residence. Mid way, a speeding car allegedly jumped the red light at Sangam Cinema and rammed into his motorcycle. When the passersby noticed the accident and saw that the accused was trying to flee, they surrounded the car and broke the front mirror.  A PCR call was made by them. According to the sources in the police control room, the call was transfered to R K Puram police station. After which an investigating officer (IO) was assigned the case. When he reached the spot, he realised that the case does not belong to his jurisdiction, but to South Campus police station. Informing the senior police official, the IO walked away. After a while, the IO of South Campus reached the crime scene. Meanwhile, the accused took the victim in his car and fled. Another half an hour later, the police got a call from Safdarjung hospital informing about the victim. The IO then reached Safdarjung hospital.
