Delhi police foiled a kidnapping attempt in Rohini, after tip-off from a couple, stationed in a car behind the accused’s vehicle. After the tip-off, Delhi police intercepted the vehicle within 30 minutes.
The accused, a 55-year-old engineer attempted to kidnap and molest a 19-year-old girl in a moving car. According to the police two PCR vans chased the vehicle, a Santro, for 30 minutes. The police teams were aided by a couple in another car who first informed the police after hearing the victim cry for help. The couple chased the Santro till they lost sight of it, police official added.
The incident was reported from Sector-3 in Rohini at around 9:45 am on Saturday. A couple heard a girl calling out for help inside a silver coloured Santro car at a traffic signal. The girl was allegedly being molested inside. They immediately informed police and gave out the exact location of the car and began chasing the accused themselves. They were soon joined in the chase by a PCR van, which noticed the accused heading towards Sector 24.
The occupants of the PCR van meanwhile informed other police vans in the area and kept giving out their exact locations. In the meantime, the police control room had directed several PCR vans in outer Delhi to intercept this car. The accused, however, managed to give the couple the slip at a traffic signal. He was finally intercepted at10:12 am near Barwala-Rithala Road and the victim was rescued.
The accused has been arrested and the car used in the alleged crime seized. Police said a total of around 10 police personnel were involved in the rescue. Seven out of them were directly involved in the chase.
The victim is a 1st year college student and lives with her family in Rohini. She has told police she was forcibly pulled into the car by the accused while she was walking on the road.
The accused Ram Niwas Jindal, a resident of Keshav Puram, works as an engineer with a private company in Delhi. He was not found to be drunk at the time of the incident. He has been booked for kidnapping and molestation.
