The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the children and youth to make coming Ganesh Puja and Durga Puja 'eco-friendly' during his radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat'. The PM asked the youth to use natural soil to carve out idols.

Modi also gave a call to revive the old tradition and protect the environment, water bodies and the tiny species living in water from pollution. He said, “Celebrating an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav is also a work of social service.”

Following Prime Minister’s call, an initiative under the aegis of 'Narmada Samagra' has been taken through a workshop – “Aao banaayen apne haathon se apne Ganesh ki moorti” (Come, let us make with our own hands, idols of our Ganesh) at various places along river Narmada. The workshop will continue in Bhopal till September 4. Thousands of children from Amarkantak to Bharuch have been imparted training through the workshop.

The Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Anil Madhav Dave inspired children to make idols from natural soil. “Prime Minister’s inspiration and our efforts, come, let us conserve water and protect the environment,” Dave said on the occasion.
