Photo on FB with kids from ex-wife might have driven model to take extreme step
The latest profile picture of her husband with two children from his first wife on Facebook might have driven 25-year-old model Priyanka Kapoor take the extreme step, a source close to the investigation said.
Priyanka was found hanging from the ceiling at her Defence Colony residence on the in the wee hours of Friday. In her two-page suicide note, Priyanka has alleged assault, harassment and frequent dowry demand by her husband Nitin Chawla (37) and mother-in-law, after which her husband was arrested. According to the police, Chawla owns several pubs in South Delhi.
Priyanka got married to Chawla two months ago. Her family told the police that they were not aware about his first marriage before the wedding. They added that soon after the marriage, Chawla and his mother started assaulting Priyanka for dowry.
The police learnt that Chawla had divorced his first wife to marry Priyanka and has two children from his first wife. After the divorce, the children were staying with their mother. When Priyanka got to know about Chawla's first wife and children, she allegedly asked him to stay away from them.
A source quoting one of Priyanka's friends told Millennium Post that she learnt that Chawla was still in touch with his ex-wife and children even after marrying her. On Thursday, hours before Priyanka allegedly hanged herself, Chawla had changed his Facebook profile picture, in which he is seen with his two children.
“It could be the reason behind the latest fight between the couple. It appears that Chawla might have threatened her again and in fear she might have committed suicide,” the source added.
Meanwhile, the police are scanning the call details of Chawla and Priyanka. The police and the SDM are likely to question Chawla's first wife to learnt about his behaviour and other details. Friends and relatives of the duo are also being questioned, the source added.
Meanwhile, Priyanka’s post-mortem report is awaited and the suicide note, alleging harassment, assault and dowry demand, has been sent to the forensic team, another police official said.
