Petrol price hiked by Rs 2.19 a litre, diesel by 98 paise per litre

Petrol price was hiked by Rs 2.19 a litre and diesel by 98 paise per litre by the oil marketing companies today and these new rates will be effective from Monday night. Earlier, on March 16 last, petrol price was hiked by as much as Rs 3.07 a litre, reversing its 3-month declining trend, while diesel rates had gone up by Rs 1.90 per litre. Thereafter, petrol in Delhi was priced at Rs 59.68 per litre as against the previous Rs 56.61. Diesel price too soared to Rs 48.33 compared with Rs 46.43 a litre previously. Consumers are still to get all the benefits from the sharp drop in international oil prices to a decade low as the government on six occasions since November has raised excise duty on the two auto fuels.
