Penetta orders probe into Military day care centres

Update: 2012-12-20 03:22 GMT
US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta has ordered a nationwide probe into hiring procedures at military day care centres after the Army found problems with security background checks of workers at one of them. The US has 283 military day care centres and the investigation would include all of them.

‘Military children are precious members of our DoD family. As a department, protecting our service members and their families is paramount,’ Panetta said in a statement. Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said that an immediate investigation into its hiring procedures at Army Child Development Centres (CDC) has been ordered after identifying potential problems with security background investigations for a number of employees at one of the centres. ‘The safety of the children under our care is our most important responsibility,’ said Col Fern Sumpter.
