At a time when the city is grappling with the dengue crisis, distressed parents of a 10-year-old girl who died due to the vector-borne disease four years ago, are awaiting action on their complaint that the death was caused due to medical negligence.
According to the parents, Ritu Kumari, a class IV student had died in October 2011 due to multiple-organ failure after she was administered wrong medicine for dengue. The hospital <g data-gr-id="25">authorities,</g> refused to comment on the issue saying they will have to check their records for the same.
“We had rushed her to RLKC Metro Path lab hospital and heart institute in Narayana when she was suffering from fever. Four days later they confirmed that she is suffering from dengue and her platelet count is down. We were told that the hospital does not have required facilities and the patient <g data-gr-id="32">was</g> then referred to RML hospital,” girl’s father Pramod Kumar Chaudhury said during a press conference here.
“She died due to multiple organ <g data-gr-id="26">failure</g> at RML and the doctors told us that it was a drug-induced reaction. Since, then we have been demanding action against the hospital and compensation but there has been no justice yet,” he added.
Sanjay Verma, Technical Supervisor, RML hospital said: “The <g data-gr-id="31">condition</g> the girl was brought at RML hospital was a drug-induced reaction. She was administered wrong medicines and heavy doses of it.”
When contacted for his response to the allegations, RK Sharma, Medical Superintendent, RLKC hospital said: “I am not updated on the case. We will have to check the records for an update on the same”.
