The 26th Mango Festival provided a package deal of fun and entertainment for adults and children alike apart from the opportunity to view and savor the varieties of mangoes. There was sale of fresh mangoes, quiz and slogan contest magic shows and colorful programs.
On the second day, a mango eating competition for women, was held in the evening drew large participation from women folks. In the competition, Chanda won the first prize eating 1kg and 404 gm mango pulp. The second prize was won by Anita Chaudhary eating 1 kg and 326 gm. of mango pulp. The third prize was won by Lalita Attary eating 1 kg and 280 gm of mango pulp. Cash prizes worth Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- and Rs. 1000/- were won by winners respectively.
Pitampura Dilli Haat was the venue for the three-day event. Mango growers and horticulturists exhibited the best of their farm offerings during the 26th Mango festival. From the desi delicacies like the Husnara or the Zafarn to the exotic imports the festival is showcasing a range of the King of fruits.
Some of the rare varieties of fruits like Sirki, Suwarn, Jahangir, Neeleshwari, Royal SP, Raddy Pasand, Himasagar, Kensington, Amrapali and Mallika, Neelam, Fazli, Banganpalli and Dushheri, Langra, Alphonso, Kesar, Tota Pari, Vanraj and many more were on display.
The festival was home to renowned cultivators from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and Uttarakhand. Major participants are Rajya Krishi Utpadan Mandi Parishad Lucknow, IARI Delhi, CISH Lucknow and UP State Horticulture Cooperative Marketing Federation Lucknow. The third day also saw a mango eating competion, but this time, men’s!In the competition Mohd. Javed won the first prize eating kg 1 and 510 gm mango pulp. The second prize was won by Mr. Vijay eating 1 kg and 366 gm. of mango pulp. The third prize was won by Mr Mohd. Tafzil eating 1 kg and 338 gm. of mango pulp. Cash prizes worth Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- and Rs. 1000/- were won by winners respectively.
The highlight of the event was a mango shaped like a guava which is brought by Tariq Mustafa, from Muzaffarnagar, UP.
