Several incidents of waterlogging were reported from various parts of the city, particularly in South Delhi in the wake of overnight rain which also uprooted trees and caused collapse of portions of buildings in many areas.
Over a dozen cases of waterlogging were reported from areas under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation including Sangam Vihar, R Block, Badarpur to Molarband stretch of road, Bhogal underpass, Ashram, Jasola Vihar and Devli Extension, a senior SDMC official.
Ten trees were uprooted while four cases of collapse of old portions of buildings were also reported, he said. Waterlogging on a flyover near AIIMS led to traffic jam towards Lodhi Road and Chanakyapuri.
In East Delhi, two cases of building collapse were reported although no casualty occurred, a senior official of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) said. In North Delhi too, waterlogging was reported in areas like Shastri Nagar.
The on-going Metro construction work had already narrowed the main roads of the city and after the heavy rainfall on Sunday till mid-night, nearby construction sites were waterlogged. As a result of this, the roads have became narrower and the traffic on Monday morning moved at a snail’s pace.
There were several reports about a portion of the road at Panchsheel flyover caving in. Because of this, the carriageway was made non-functional and heavy traffic movement were reported at Aurobindo Marg and Press Enclave Road.
Apart from these areas, severe traffic snarls during the early hours on Monday were reported from ITO junction, Saket, Raja Garden, Uttam Nagar, Peeragarhi, Seva Sadan, Neb Sarai, Sangam Vihar, Karol Bagh, AIIMS flyover, South-Extension, Moolchand, Mathura Road, Greater Kailash, Ashram Chowk, to name a few.
