Whatever maybe on the mind of the party high-command, Delhi Congress MLAs are together in the view that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit alone can lead the party to a fourth successive win in the forthcoming Assembly elections slated for December next year. A day after Dikshit revealed that she did receive feelers from the Congress high-command about her possible elevation to the Union cabinet, Congress MLAs warned the high command that if this step is taken, the state Congress will receive a major setback.
Senior Congress leaders lamented that if the party high-command decides to change their leader at this point of time, the new chief minister will not have much time to understand the government and debacle in the elections will be inevitable. Former minister and senior Congress MLA, Narendra Nath, said, ‘BJP committed a mistake when they changed their chief minister. Party high-command should not do this mistake. Although, I don’t feel that the chief minister will be inducted into the Union cabinet, as earlier too, such rumours had done rounds but nothing happened.’
Another MLA from Seelampur constituency, Mateen Ahmed, said, ‘The chief minister is our party face in Delhi. Without her, it will be difficult for the party to win the next election. We just hope that she continues with us only.’
Congress Legislative Party spokesperson and senior MLA Mukesh Sharma, praising Dikshit, said, ‘She is our undisputed leader without having any controversy to her name. I am sure that under her leadership, we would contest the next election and win it, creating history.’
