The deceased has been identified as Daya Shankar, while the other two injured, identified as Deena and Deepak, were rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital for treatment, they said. According to the fire department, a call was received around 5.40 pm regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson said Director-Works DMRC Jitender Tyagi has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

‘An incident occurred near Sector 18 Rohini when an agency hired by a DMRC Contractor M/s J Kumar unauthorisedly began utility identification work for gas pipeline without necessary safety precautions as prescribed by DMRC,’ the spokesperson said.

In a separate incident, an alert Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trooper foiled a woman’s attempt to commit suicide by jumping off the elevated platform of a Delhi Metro station, an official said on Monday.

The incident was reported from west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden Metro station around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday.

‘CISF constable Rupam Boro, deputed in CCTV monitoring room, observed a young woman commuter climbing over the grille and a man trying to stop her. The constable took a few seconds to understand that she was trying to jump off,’ said the official.

Boro immediately informed his colleagues who rushed to the spot and caught both the male and female passengers, said the official.

Both the passengers - identified as Puja, 19, and Vinay, 20 - were brought to station control room where the woman disclosed that she wanted to commit suicide due to some domestic problems. ‘Both belong to Rohtak in Haryana. They are the students of Delhi’s Shivaji College and are studying in BA first year. After a police enquiry, the woman was handed over to her family,’ said the official.
